Deep space salvaging is fun and can be quite profitable: many pod pilots leave their mission areas and the wrecks there, just floating in space. I come in and salvage all I can. Not bad and can be a nice earner. The salvage is even more profitable when the wrecks are Tech 2 ships. The parts salvaged from these ships are then used in the manufacture of T2 rigs - currently, license to print isk.

Hello, I am new to the game but interested in Salvaging (mining too).
How do you know what solar systems to go to and where in the solar system mission runners tend to go with their ships?
Right now my 'home' is in Sobeski, which is right next to Jita.
It's so busy there, that I often find entire asteroid belts totally clean and haven't seen any wrecks really. So I'm guessing I need to 'relocate' to a different area of space, just not sure where.
Maybe I should finally join a corporation :)
If you intend to salvage other people's mission wrecks, be aware that many mission runners don't like that and they may shoot you, even though concord will shoot them back. I, for example, like to salvage my own wrecks and I will equip a disposable ship and kill people who steal my wrecks sometimes.
That said, you need to be able to scan out the wrecks with scan probes in order to find wrecks left behind by other people.
The easiest way to find salvage is to run your own missions and then go back and salvage your wrecks. You'll get money for the missions and you can salvage them. It's a win-win situation.
If you are intent on eeking a living out by picking up the crumbs left behind by mission runners, then I suggest finding the highest quality level 4 combat mission agents. That is where the most mission runners will be. You can find the best agents by opening the info window on various NPC corporations. I think it's sorted by quality by default. Combat agents will be the ones like "Security" agents.
Once again, you're much better off running your own missions and then going back with a ship specially fitted for salvage and looting. You can make several times more ISK/Hr running missions than you can mining.
Swift, thank you VERY MUCH for your information.
It's been really helpful and I really appreciate it!
I just found your blog today, but I've already subscribed via RSS.
I also posted a comment on your 'The Serenity of Mining' post, I had some questions about that too.
Thanks again, I look forward to reading future posts :)
This isn't my blog. I just stop by and read this one from time to time. I answered your other questions to the best of my ability also.
Ahh sorry about that Votrian and Swift :)
Votrian, I enjoy your blog :)
Swift, thanks for the answer :)
Hi Robert
Thanks to Swift for answering your question and yes, salvaging other people's wrecks while they are still running missions is a bit cheeky. However, looting the wreck (i.e. taking the contents) will get you flagged. Salvaging the wreck (whether empty or full) will NOT.
Anyway, get some practise in with scan probes and I find those mission runners and plex runners. Drop me a line ingame and I can show you the ropes.

welp, lots of drone compounds... were you hanging about the drone regions? ;)
you can also get T2 salvage out of T2 ship wrecks. now, if only there were T2 titans...
How do you find the wrecks? I know you can't probe for them...

Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now. Keep it up!
And according to this article, I tottaly agree with your opinion, but only this time! :)
You have to express more your opinion to attract more readers, because just a video or plain text without any personal approach is not that valuable. But it is just form my point of view
I am not going to be original this time, so all I am going to say that your blog rocks, sad that I don't have suck a writing skills

So far here is the only article I have been able to read online that seemed real for what my goals are. Opinions?
